Interlibrary loans and document delivery service at the Library of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, or, How to set up a library service

Služba za međuknjižničnu posudbu Knjižnice Filozofskog fakulteta u Zagrebu osnovana je u lipnju 2009. godine. Rad opisuje njezino ustrojavanje i kroz statističke podatke daje pregled prvih devetnaest mjeseci djelovanja, do kraja prosinca 2010. godine, tijekom kojih su uspostavljeni svi radni postupci i obrađeno više od tisuću zahtjeva. U radu se govori o značaju međuknjižnične posudbe i dostave dokumenata te načinima njezina djelovanja. Naznačeni su i poželjni smjerovi razvoja Službe u Knjižnici, ali i unutar hrvatske knjižničarske zajednice.Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery Service at the Library of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb was founded in June 2009. The paper describes its founding and gives, through the statistical data, an insight into the first 19 months of the service (until December 2010). In this period all work processes were established and over a thousand requests processed. The paper deals with the general significance of the interlibrary loans and document delivery service and its modus operandi. It also emphasizes the desirable directions of development of the service within the Library, as well as within the whole Croatian library community

Welcome to the jungle : science communication in the mediatized society

This paper discusses the influence of the media on science communication, on both the institutional and personal level with regard to the changing public nature of science. Authors analyze three heavily intertwined parts of the modern system of science: regulation of science, communication of science and the processes of its production. Looking from the institutional perspective the following tendencies of science mediatization are observed: institutional and individual self-promotion (i. e. PR), increase of scientific (and/or political) impact, selfregulatory behaviour and simplistic mediation of scientific content. At the micro- level, or in the arena where science actually is produced three areas of particular media influence are highlighted: achieving and improving scientific status, increase of informal scientific communication and changes in scholarly publishing patterns. Authors conclude by emphasizing the need of embedding the media and information literacy content into all levels of science education and production

Eksplozija na Vergaroli u Puli 18. kolovoza 1946. godine: pokušaj rekonstrukcije i izazovi tumačenja

Autorica u članku predstavlja rezultate svojih istraživanja eksplozije podmorskih mina u uvali Vergarola u Puli 18. kolovoza 1946. godine te otvara kontroverznu temu kojom se historiografija do sada nije bavila. Namjera je rada sveobuhvatno obraditi temu raspravljajući o svakom njezinom segmentu zasebno: okolnostima koje su prethodile događaju, događaju samome, kasnijim zbivanjima u Puli, utjecaju eksplozije na život u gradu te načinu na koji je eksplozija ostala zabilježena u kolektivnom pamćenju ljudi. Istraživanje je uključilo sve onovremene izvore koje je autorica imala na raspolaganju (ukopne knjige, novinske napise itd.) kao i pisanja novijeg datuma (članci i monografije). Posebnost je rada korištenje metode usmene povijesti, odnosno uklapanje iskaza svjedoka u pokušaj rekonstrukcije i tumačenja događaja

Elektronički izvori znanstvenih informacija za povjesničare i uloga knjižnica u podršci znanstvenome radu

Rad opisuje specifičnosti istraživačkog rada humanističkih znanstvenika s naglaskom na potragu za znanstvenom literaturom te objašnjava zašto su humanisti nešto kasnije od drugih znanstvenika započeli koristiti elektroničke znanstvene izvore. Autorica donosi klasifikaciju elektroničkih izvora za povjesničare i raspravlja o najvažnijim predstavnicima svake vrste e-izvora, njihovim prednostima i ograničenjima. Nadalje, upućuje na znanstvene knjižnice (općeznanstvene, visokoškolske, specijalne) kao mjesta koja stvaraju svoje elektroničke zbirke, osiguravaju pristup drugim elektroničkim zbirkama i humanistima nude i tradicionalne i nove usluge kao pomoć u snalaženju u suvremenom informacijskom okruženju

Informing, educating and connecting Croatian librarians’ community : CLA News and the 2012 – 2014 Editorial Board

HKD Novosti stručno su glasilo Hrvatskoga knjižničarskog društva koje je 1994. pokrenula Aleksandra Horvat, tadašnja predsjednica Hrvatskoga bibliotekarskog društva, s namjerom informiranja stručne javnosti o radu stručnog društva te o novostima na domaćem i međunarodnom knjižničarskom planu. Glasilo izlazi 3-4 puta godišnje i svaki se broj formira prilozima članova o radu pojedinaca i tijela HKD-a, izvještajima sa skupova i ostalim manifestacijama u organizaciji HKD-a, ali i drugim temama u najširem smislu važnima hrvatskoj knjižničarskoj zajednici. Najvažnije zadaće uredništva glasila jesu planiranje i provođenje uređivačke politike, oblikovanje sadržajnog i vizualnog identiteta lista te motiviranje autora za pisanje priloga. Osnovna je svrha ovoga članka dati izvještaj o radu uredništva HKD Novosti u mandatnom razdoblju 2012.-2014. godine. Nakon kratkog pregleda povijesti glasila, opisana su postignuća posljednjeg uredništva u komunikaciji s autorima, formalnom i sadržajnom osvježenju te pojačanoj promidžbi lista. Također su prikazani rezultati ankete provedene od lipnja do rujna 2014. godine, kao i brojčani podaci o posjetu internetskim stranicama HKD Novosti u mandatnom razdoblju od 2012. do 2014. godine. U zaključku autorice navode preporuke za budući smjer razvoja HKD Novosti te preduvjete za njihovu daljnju transformaciju i napredak.The CLA News, a professional bulletin of the Croatian Library Association, was established in 1994 by Aleksandra Horvat, the president of the CLA at that time, with the goal to inform the library professionals about the work of the CLA and to publish the news from the domestic and international librarianship. The bulletin is published 3 to 4 times a year and every issue contains articles about the work of the individual CLA members, the work of the CLA professional boards, reports or short notices on conferences and other events organized by the CLA, but also reports on other important events and professional issues regarding national librarians\u27 community. The most important duties of the CLA News Editorial Board are forming and implementing editorial policies, making decisions on the form and content of the bulletin, and keeping contacts with the authors to motivate them to write articles and reports. The aim of this paper is to present the report about the work of the CLA News Editorial Board between 2012 and 2014. After a short overview of the history of the bulletin, the paper focuses on the achievements of the former Editorial Board in communication with the authors, formal and content-wise changes, and activities related to the promotion of the bulletin. The results of the survey conducted among the readers from the beginning of July till the end of September 2014 and the number of users who accessed the online edition of the CLA News in the same period are also presented. In the conclusion the authors propose the guidelines for the further development of the bulletin and the essential prerequisites necessary for its further improvement

Development of the e-service for remote obtaining of library material by applying the ITIL framework

Rad se bavi uvođenjem e-usluge pod nazivom E-dohvati namijenjene udaljenom dohvaćanju knjižnične građe u Knjižnici Filozofskog fakulteta u Zagrebu. Uslugu će pružati Služba za međuknjižničnu posudbu Knjižnice, a sastojat će se od dva dijela: dosadašnje knjižnične usluge međuknjižnične posudbe te nove usluge skeniranja na zahtjev. Teoretski dio rada tematizira potrebu razvoja e-usluga u suvremenom uslužnom sektoru s užom specijalizacijom na knjižnice, a praktični dio temelji se na ideji razvoja i realizacije usluge E-dohvati primjenom okvira IT infrastrukturne biblioteke (ITIL) koji ce osigurati praćenje najbolje prakse u upravljanju informacijskom tehnologijom. Usluga se razvija praćenjem faza životnoga ciklusa usluge prema ITIL-u. Na kraju rada autorica analizira dobiveno rješenje te zaključuje mogućnostima primjene ITIL-a u sličnim poslovnim situacijama u javnome sektoru, odnosno knjižnicama.The thesis is focused on the implementation of the e-service called E-dohvati designed for remote obtaining of library material at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Library in Zagreb. The service will be provided by the Library's Interlibrary loan service, and will consist of two library services: the current Interlibrary loan service and the new, scan at request service. The theoretical part of the paper discusses the necessity of e-services development in the modern service sector using a specific library specialisation, while the practical part of the paper is based on the idea of developing and implementing the E-dohvati service by applying the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework which will ensure following the best practice for managing information technology. The service is being developed by monitoring phases of the ITIL service lifecycle. At the end of the paper the author analyses the results and concludes on the possibilities of using ITIL framework within similar business situations in the public sector, more specifically libraries
